The University is listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED), maintained by the International Association of Universities (IAU). Its qualifications may be submitted for international credential assessment, including through WES and IQAS, subject to each organisation’s eligibility requirements and individual assessment.

With faculty and learners from different countries, GlobalNxt offers an international academic environment. Its participation in networks including ACU, ICDE and AAOU reflects its focus on academic collaboration, innovation and accessible higher education.

2001 — Founded as U21Global in Singapore

U21Global was established in Singapore in June 2001 as a joint venture between Universitas 21 and Thomson Learning, later known as Cengage Learning. It was an early initiative in international online higher education.

Universitas 21 brought together leading research universities, including the University of Melbourne, University of Nottingham, University of Virginia and National University of Singapore. This heritage helped shape U21Global’s international outlook and commitment to academic quality.

These historical connections do not mean that the named universities award or jointly accredit the current Ph.D.

2012 — Established as GlobalNxt University in Malaysia

In 2012, U21Global relocated and was re-established in Malaysia following an invitation from the Ministry of Higher Education, supporting the country’s ambition to become an international education hub.

This transition created GlobalNxt University as a licensed university within Malaysia’s higher education system.

GlobalNxt University holds university registration DU034(W) under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), establishing its status as a university within the Malaysian higher education system.

Candidates conduct their own research and remain responsible for their work. SIMI Swiss coordinates supplementary resources and applicable financial support but does not award a qualification under this arrangement.

“Three layers of recognition” is a core SwissEdu⁺ principle for reviewing online programmes. It brings together three checks: the institution’s authority to operate, the programme’s accreditation and official recognition of its online delivery mode.

For GlobalNxt University’s Ph.D in Education:

  1. Institution: GlobalNxt University holds registration DU034(W).
  2. Programme: the Ph.D in Education is accredited under MQA/FA15060.
  3. Delivery mode: Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is recorded in the programme’s accreditation entry.

Together, these checks help you assess the institution, programme and approved study mode. Acceptance of the qualification elsewhere remains subject to the requirements of the receiving organisation or competent authority.

Programme, qualification, accreditation and recognition information is based on references from Malaysian government bodies, regulators and other relevant organisations. It reflects the information available at publication and may change following policy updates or decisions by the competent authorities.

Recognition, comparability and equivalency depend on the requirements of the country, authority, educational institution or organisation where you intend to use the qualification. You should verify the relevant requirements before enrolling.

Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is recorded in the programme’s MQA accreditation entry. Registration through EMGS and issuance of an EMGS Approval to Study for ODL letter confirm approval under the applicable Malaysian process; they do not establish automatic qualification recognition in another country.

The programme may not be suitable for applicants who require a qualification for public-sector employment or roles subject to specific equivalency, study-mode, residency or professional licensing requirements.

SwissEdu⁺, SIMI Swiss, GlobalNxt University and associated parties do not guarantee qualification recognition, equivalency, immigration outcomes or professional licensing in any jurisdiction. These decisions rest with the relevant receiving authorities or organisations.
