The Doctorate in Business Administration in Malta, under the DBA Prior Research Recognition Pathway, is designed for applicants who already have a research background, research ideas, or previous academic work, and who wish to develop, complete, and systematise these into a full dissertation for recognition and the award of a Doctorate qualification within a shortened timeframe, which may be completed in approximately 12 months.

 

This pathway allows previously completed research-related work to be reviewed and, where appropriate, further developed into a dissertation with academic and applied value.

Upon successful completion of all programme requirements, learners will be awarded the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) by EuroAmerican Institute (EAI), Malta (EU). The institution and programme are recognised within Malta’s higher education system through the applicable accreditation and quality assurance framework of the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA).

Upon graduation, students will receive:

  • Doctorate in Business Administration awarded by EuroAmerican Institute, Malta. The qualification does not distinguish between approved modes of study.

Eligible learners may optionally register to receive the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), subject to the applicable academic regulations.

Doctoral students may be allowed to select a specialisation based on the topic and scope of their dissertation, subject to academic review and approval.

Please note that the selected specialisation will be recorded on the academic transcript only and will not appear on the qualification. The DBA Prior Research Recognition Pathway is a route designed for doctoral students who have already begun doctoral-level research in Business Administration at another institution, or who already possess previous research work or research outputs, but for some reason have not completed the programme. Instead of starting the research journey entirely from the beginning, doctoral students may submit evidence of prior research for academic review.

 

Prior research may include research proposals, drafted dissertation chapters, literature reviews, research methodology, collected data, draft dissertations, supervisor feedback, published articles, or other research outputs. These materials are not automatically accepted. Instead, they are reviewed through the programme’s academic assessment process based on academic quality, relevance to the DBA, originality, research data, and the extent to which they meet the requirements of the DBA programme.

 

An important point to understand is that “recognition of prior research” does not mean automatic recognition of an entire dissertation or automatic award of the degree. Each submission must be academically assessed and may need to be revised, supplemented, or further developed to comply with the standards of the awarding institution. Data, research methodology, dissertation structure, and compliance with DBA requirements must be considered individually.

 

In simple terms, if doctoral students have already completed part of their doctoral research journey, this pathway helps avoid unnecessary repetition of relevant and suitable work. However, doctoral students must still complete the research according to the standards of the awarding institution. This may include refining the research topic, expanding the literature review, updating data, improving the research methodology, completing data, revising parts of the dissertation, or preparing for final assessment.

 

The DBA Prior Research Recognition Pathway is also different from DBA by Publication. DBA by Publication is usually intended for applicants who already have published research articles and wish to use those publications to demonstrate doctoral-level contribution. Meanwhile, the DBA Prior Research Recognition Pathway is more suitable for doctoral students who have unfinished research, draft dissertations, or previous academic work that has not yet been fully developed or formally recognised.

 

In other words, this pathway is not a “fast-track DBA” or an “instant Doctorate”. It is a serious academic assessment process. The institution reviews what doctoral students have already completed, evaluates the suitability of the submitted materials, and identifies what still needs to be further developed. Therefore, completion time may vary between doctoral students, depending on the quality and level of completion of their prior research work.

 

In summary, the DBA Prior Research Recognition Pathway is a route that helps doctoral students with existing doctoral-level research have the relevant parts reviewed for possible recognition, continue completing the remaining academic requirements, and proceed to final assessment in accordance with the regulations of the awarding institution.

South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is the statutory authority responsible for the management and oversight of the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and for ensuring compliance with national values and quality standards within the qualifications recognition system.

According to SAQA’s comparability assessment outcomes, a Doctoral qualification awarded in Malta, Europe is recognised by SAQA as a Doctoral qualification within the national qualifications benchmarking system, in accordance with South Africa’s assessment framework and recognition criteria.

The Automatic Recognition Database Italia (ARDI) is a tool developed by CIMEA to support the automatic correspondence of qualifications issued in countries that are signatories to the Lisbon Recognition Convention. It is designed in line with the European approach to automatic recognition in higher education.

Through ARDI, eligible qualifications may obtain a statement of correspondence with the relevant level of the Italian higher education system, subject to the scope of the database and the applicable procedures of the receiving institution or competent authority.

Where applicable, doctoral-level qualifications may be referenced in line with the third cycle of the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA), depending on the specific qualification and the official ARDI result.

Study Quality Evaluation Center – Lithuania’s authority for the evaluation and quality assurance of education – has conducted an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for qualifications awarded in Malta.
